Target Operating Model (TOM) Design Template
A TOM design template that defines how an organisation delivers its strategy across processes, organisation, locations, information, suppliers, and management system.
Target operating models, organisation design, ERP and enterprise systems blueprints — how the enterprise is structured to deliver.
A TOM design template that defines how an organisation delivers its strategy across processes, organisation, locations, information, suppliers, and management system.
Documented organisation-design blueprint — the structured artifact a team fills in when designing a new or revised organisation. It captures the five Galbraith Star choices (strategy, structure, processes, rewards, people) as completed design records: a target structure with spans and layers, the lateral coordination processes, the decision-rights map, and the reward and role choices.
Governance-design blueprint: the decision rights, forums, and accountability structures that determine how decisions get made and overseen. It captures the governance operating model — bodies and their mandates, a decision-rights (RACI) map, escalation paths, and the lines-of-defence/oversight model — as a completed artifact.
Business capability model: a hierarchical map of what the organisation does (capabilities), independent of how or who, with a heat-map overlay of strategic importance and maturity. It applies capability-based planning (as in TOGAF) — map, assess, plan, control — typically decomposing to Level 3, and colours the heat map (e.g., red high-change, blue no-change) to direct investment.
An AI operating model template that defines how an organisation runs AI at scale — use-case portfolio, platform/data foundation, talent, governance, and the operating rhythm.
Data & analytics operating-model blueprint, structured on the DAMA-DMBOK knowledge areas (the DAMA Wheel) with data governance at the centre. It captures the data operating model — governance roles and accountability, architecture, quality, metadata, and security — plus the analytics capability and data products.
Performance-management blueprint built on the Balanced Scorecard (Kaplan-Norton). It translates strategy into objectives and measures across the four perspectives — financial, customer, internal process, and learning & growth — and links them with a strategy map showing cause-and-effect.
Target enterprise-architecture blueprint — the documented future-state across the TOGAF BDAT domains (business, data, application, technology) with the transition architectures to reach it. It is the design artifact that records the target state, the gap from baseline, and the sequenced transitions, capability-anchored.
Customer-experience design blueprint — the artifacts a design team creates to shape an experience: research-based personas, end-to-end journey maps with emotions and moments of truth, and the experience principles that guide design decisions. It is the design-deliverable companion to CX strategy and service blueprinting, focused on creating and documenting the intended experience.
Operating-process design blueprint: standardised, end-to-end process designs documented with a common notation. It scopes the process with SIPOC, models it in BPMN (events, activities, gateways, swimlanes), and captures controls, hand-offs, and measures.
Service operating-model blueprint: how a service is delivered end to end across front, middle, and back office. It combines a service blueprint (frontstage/backstage/support across the line of visibility) with operating-model components — channels, roles, processes, technology, and service levels — to document how the service runs.
Partnership and ecosystem design blueprint: how an organisation orchestrates partners to create and capture value beyond what it could alone. It maps ecosystem roles (orchestrator, core partners, complementors, technology enablers, resellers), designs the shared value proposition and value-capture model, and sets the governance and onboarding for partners.
